Craft is normally characterized by knowledge transmitted in traditional manner and the use of traditional technologies. Yet, the creativity and inventiveness of masters and apprentices are highly desirable.

Crafts predominantly use natural materials in the process of production, as for example: wood, leather, metal, textiles and clay.

Craft activities in Serbia can be divided in three categories based on the actual categorization from the Regulations for determining activities considered the art(istic) crafts, old crafts and, cottage industries (Official bulletin of the Republic of Serbia, no.21, March 4, 2005)
